I have the Pogo Alert. They are good and make you more aware I find. The trick is to still use your instincts and keep an eye out for camera's and police etc and use the detector as a backup.
I tried a few different detectors, most were not loud enough if you had the windows down and stereo on. The Pogo is more than loud enough thats for sure.
Pogo uses GPS for the fixed camera sites and also warns of possible laser sites, you can also add your own sites if its not picked up.
The average speed camera for motorways is very good, tells you your average speed within each section of the speed traps and if your going over it.
It does not warn you of cameras pointing in the opposite direction, and also if you are going slower than the camera limit then it will only bleep once rather than bleeping up to the camera, good if your below the limit, otherwise it can be annoying. If your approaching the camera and above the limit the detector goes mental. If you get snapped when pogo is going mental you must be deaf.
It does not pick up red light camera's, which at first I found disappointing, but then I decided this was a good thing, speeding is one thing, jumping traffic lights is just dangerous. But if you do want a red light detector the pogo is not for you.
Also the pogo is tiny, looks good and solidly made, bunch of settings, and costs £50 a year for unlimited updates (bit on the steep side).
There is a laser sensor on the top of the unit, how useful this is I do not know. It very rarely goes off, and it does not go off randomly which is good, but in my opinion, if the laser detector goes off chances are you have already been had. Rather oddly the laser sensor does not go off when behind a traffic police car, I am sure they have equipment monitoring the speed of cars, but whatever they use does not trigger the laser sensor, shame as would be useful to pick up unmarked cars.
If you leave the pogo on the dash board on a hot summers day when the car is parked up the LCD screens goes funny because of the heat, its fine when driving, just when car is baking away in the sun parked up. Once it cools its fine again.
I've had it for about a year now, got it after I got stopped for speeding after having my V6 for 1month! Personally I find it very useful, but like I said it should be used as a backup, you still have to remain on the ball and vigilant.
If you want to know anything specific then ask away.
Oh and by the way I don't work for pogo or have any affiliation with them, its just when I was looking for a detector there was little info on them in terms of reviews, so here you go.
