Broken heart - wrote off my GTV today (photos)
Was tootling along, minding my own business when a little old lady (I kid you not) coming the other way crossed across the double lines straight into my path.....
I just managed to swerve enough to avoid a full head on and she slammed into the side of my GTV and then went on to take out the car behind me.
Not a scratch on me (or anyone else thank goodness) but not so with my poor Alfa.
I've only had her for 6 months and had recently done the cam belts, water pump, new tyres, reconditioned the interior leather, new window tinting and umpteen other fettling things. I was working to get things perfect and was ready for a compete re-spray and new slotted disks (boy am I glad I hadn't done that...).
Needless to say I am bitterly ****ed off and am tossing up what to do. Have to consider fixing her (an insurance write-off) or buy another GTV and keep this for parts (mechanically excellent...only done 60,000 km)
One thing I can put to rest for you all. The airbags definitely do work when the airbag warning light is lit (been debate about this on other threads). The damn thing has been on for months since I was silly enough to move the passenger seat with the ignition on...you know the rest....and I hadn't got round to resetting it.
Anyway - time for a rethink on what my next Alfa-owning experience should be. Pretty hard not to get another V6 GTV.
