I am going to have to defend ALFA a little here, first off people seem to be ignoring the fact that they are driving old
cars, a lot of them may also have high miles, our nearly new Focus never goes wrong, of course it doesnt, its nearly new, but it will need work when its done 80k and is 10 years old.
listening to some of the owners on this forum (not this thread) its obvious that they have no technical knowledge so no wonder the car suffers as the drive around oblivious to the signs of impending doom (creaks, bangs, poor running etc).
I spoke to an ALFA specialist recently and he said that in his opinion GTV's are very sound cars with no major vices, its the owners that let them down , I tend to agree, in 16 months of GTV ownership and daily use all that has actually failed
was the radiator, yes i have replaced all of the discs, yes i have replaced the belts and variator, yes i have done countless other little jobs but thats called maintenance.
I sometimes wonder if all this talk of ALFA unreliability is some sort of inverted snobbery?, i.e. my ALFA is unreliable, therefore its classic italian exotica, therefore its like a ferrari
