Unipart dampers - any good?
I had some insurance work done on my car recently ( on account of someone driving into my wheel in a car park ) and as a consequence all the front suspension components on one side were replaced.
So, at the moment I have brand new stuff on one side and ancient stuff on the other and the car is somewhat unbalanced. So, I'm now going to replace everything on the driver's side ( damper, wishbone, arb droplink ) to balance everything up. I was planning on doing the whole front end this year anyway so the insurance claim has saved me doing one side!
The new damper fitted is a Unipart item and the question is, is it any good? It has to meet certain standards obviously, but does it match at least OEM in terms of its operation ( compression/rebound, longevity, heat dispertion etc )?
Cheapest for me is to buy another Unipart damper and stick it on. Alternatively I could buy a pair of KYB but I really don't like the idea of throwing away the brand new Unipart damper. I could sell it but who would want to buy a single damper as they'd be in exactly the same situation that I'm in now!
Or does anyone know who actually makes dampers for Unipart?
