Hi all, today I went to look at my first gtv..couple of questions.
It has been sitting in a barn for a couple of years not in use, battery was flat and when opening doors the indicators flashed for about 10 seconds, is that the alarm, no siren was sounding.
It only has one key, a red one. Is it easy to get a fob? Any ideas on cost?
The passenger wiper washer looked odd, cable tied on, is that a common fault?
It has only done 50k, for a 99 phase2, mechanically seemed sound.
The windows don't seem to be sitting correctly, is that common? Should they go up and down automatically a small amount as it is frameless, as these dont! Any idea how much to get them seated correctly?
Indicators flashing sounds like an aftermarket alarm to me. Siren may be turned off or disconnected.
My GTV only has the red key and yes there is a transponder in it. Without the transponder the car wont start.
The wiper is not problem. The little clips break off so someone has put a ziptie to hold it on.
As mentioned already you can buy an aftermarket wiper arm with the washer jects built in. These work much better and look great.
The window problem is very common with GTV's. They are adjustable both in height and angle. The door trim needs to come off to adjust them. There is a write up somewhere on how to do it or download a service manual. So no the windows are not a big problems nor do they automatically drop or lift when you shut the door.
The issues youve described seem normal, you'll find those on most GTV's you look at. My car had these issues and it has turned out to be a fantastic GTV.
One thing to double check is the rear suspension bushes as they can be costly. Maybe take it an Alfa mechanic if your not sure.
I hope ive been of some help. They are great little cars if looked after.
Oh also check the service history, when was the last timing belt service? They need to be done every 3 years otherwise big bang
So factor that into your purchase price.
Best of luck
