Help What could this be?

So, my cheap GTV ('98 V6) seems to be rapidly working it's way up to not-cheap at all, and has developed a new, and slightly bizarre, fault:

When accelerating with more than about an eighth of a turn of left lock on there's a strong vibration through the steering-wheel and pedals. This only happens when turning left, with no vibration at all if going straight ahead or to the right; and turning left at a constant speed seems to be fine as well.

Has anyone got any thoughts as to what the cause could be, before I book it in at the garage again?
