Lick woohoo! just ordered my sider some new shoes!

hi guys! i have just treated my spider to some 18 inch gt alloys (will post pics when arrive from italy) but have no idea about fitting them! will they just go straight on?

a pal says i have to get lowering springs or it will de like driving around in a 4x4??

if so what size 35 or 40m??

will the bolts on my car fit the new wheels or will i need longer ones??

this is the info on the new ones

Tyre Type: -- Rim Width: 8J
Tyre Width: 225 Rim Diameter: 18 inches
Spalla / Sezione: 40 Offset: 32
Indice di carico: 92 Number of Studs: 5
Speed Rating: Y: max 186 mph Stud Diameter: 98

sorry if this sounds a bit thick but i never had a car for my boy racer age, so making up for it now!

i want to get this already so i can do it as soon as they arrive in one go (also got to do my bump stops)

these are my current wheels

please advise, thanks Jon

Most of the data looks compatible but I'm no expert. I have recently looked into 17" replacements though and found out the data I needed on here:-

Stud pattern (PCD) should be 5 x 98, centre bore 58.1mm, not sure about your offsets but the 16" alloys on mine are 30.5 so 32 would be very close. AFAIK you shouldn't have an issue with bolt length with only 1.5mm in it (if yours are 30.5 that is). That tyre size will give you a slightly bigger circumference than stock wheels and tyres so may lead to slightly inaccurate speedo readings but its within reason, acceleration may be affected by the weight and increased circumference also.

From what I understand lowering can mess up the geometry, and the ride will be choppy depending on what else you do (springs, shocks etc). But lowering will look better with the bigger wheels, so probably best keep it within reason at about 20-30mm.
