Are any other AOers running winter tyres on their 916s?
Now that I have the Jeep shed I was finally able to get my winter tyres and 16" OE rims back over to my place in NL for mounting to the Spider.
One of the rims was clearly leaking air around the edge and was a bit corroded so I took it off to the tyre shop (which is handily about 1.5km down the road), he ground the inside of the rim to make a nice new seal and also repaired a nail puncture which has set me back €50.
I swapped the rims myself and as usual it turned out to be a massive PITA as the summer rims use a big metal O ring on the hub, two of these had corroded to the hubs themselves and took 30mins each with a bloody big hammer, screwdriver and WD-40 to get off.
When I finally got them swapped the bloody thing wouldnt start after sitting for 6 weeks so had to jump it.
The tyres themselves are Pirelli Winter 210s - I used them for one season back in 06 and wasnt especially impressed, but I decided to give them another go; my summer tyres are getting toward replacement anyway and these have lots of tread. I managed to get her off the driveway, which is still covered with 2" of snow and ice so I was immediately quite impressed - a quick drive around has given good initial feedback so ill see how it goes.
The effort of getting the Spider off the drive has made me realise just HOW good the Jeep is in these conditions
