Hello (again) everybody. I went out to get in my GTV earlier and the fob remote unlocked the car and disarmed the alarm with no problems. I got in and realised I needed to scrape the ice off the windows. So I relocked the car using the fob and went in to get me scraper (the alarm armed as usual). Lo and behold when I came back out I discovered that the fob won't unlock the car and disarm the alarm!! The guts of the fob look ok and it had a new battery back last year when I replaced the top of the microswitch and fob casing.
I want to try and locate the siren and disconnect it and do some diagnosing to see whats up with the fob/alarm system. Its an aftermarket metasystems alarm system I believe -any pics of where the siren is in the engine bay please would be great - to minimise the time the alarm will be sounding.
Any pics of the Alarm ECU location behind the speedo/radio would be useful as well ... if thats definately where it is.. plus instructions on how to get behind the radio. So I can disconnect it.
I'm sooo demanding aren't I - sorry folks
Silly question time:I suppose the only way that I can tell if there is a working immobiliser associated with the alarm, is to try and start the car, after I have the alarm ECU and siren disconnected.
Serious question(s) time: Will disconnecting the alarm ECU turn the immob off? What do I do if the car is immobilised ... I have no manual or code/master key for the alarm ... plus at the moment I only get me hands on a few basic tools.
On a side note: The fob/remote locking has been playing up recently - needing a few presses to get it to lock the car - it would unlock fine on the first press every time - wierd!
And here's the full sob story of my latest quirky adventure with my Alfa - maybe it will pluck at your heartstrings or raise a wry smile or two ... enough for someone to help me out I'm hoping
Today would have been the first time I would have seen my new girlfriend properly over Christmas
and I spent the whole of Christmas day on my own - due to a major change in my private life
. Its kinda strange that the Alfa has been playing up since I met Lora, and tonight prevented me from seeing her altogether
Ironically the Alfa has been the one place where we feel like we can get away from the world and be by ourselves (and no - I'm not been having an affair - its complcated
Maybe my Alfa is doing a Herbie and has jealous (as if!!!) ..... hell of a coincidence tho dontcha think: I spend a lot of time with Lora crusing etc (no,not dogging
) in the Alfa and now I can't get in the blooming thing to go see her without the alarm going off. I don't need the car for owt else at the mo cos I'm off work over Christmas. Hey maybe it will start working all by itself (wouldn't be the first time summat like this has happened
) when I'm due back in work ... hmmmmmmmm
