Have to agree. My mate had a E46 M3 AC Schnitzer. The real thing. Had numerous mechanical failures - Diffs, gearboxes, engine, a whole lot.
There is no doubt that its a pretty impressive machine, but a little fragile unfortunately.
My question is:
a/ Can the GTV engine be tuned this far without a blower?
b/ Has anybody on here beaten an M3 in their GTV?
a) Absolutely, over here in South Africa one could get a 3.7 conversion for around about Six thousand pounds, and I can assure you it will be an absolute rocket ship.
b) Again, absolutely. That video on youtube was of a South African car with one of Dawie Devilliers 3.7l conversions. He is a member on here as well.
Fact is, stock standard they not comparable, but even in price they not comparable. If one had bought a GTV from new and had the conversion done straight away, the car would still have been cheaper than buying a M3. I can assure you, the M3 drivers would literally burst into tears when they saw the Alfa drive away.
But having said this, I'm not sure if the GTV could keep up with an M3 through the corners. I'm saying this purely on car dynamics, the GTV being a FF and the M3 a FR.
