Hi again Guys, its been a while since ive posted but i thought id update and post my newest problem.
Some of you might have read one of my earlier posts, i have a 1996 GTV TB V6 2.0 12 valve, yes, one of those very rare, impossible-to-get-parts-for models
, anyway as i said in an earlier thread, the car belonged to a colleague of mine who gave it in to a so called mechanic to change the starter motor, the car, although it had cam wear, before going in, was running and was used as a daily driver. The "mechanic" stripped the engine down, (dont know why) took off half the manifold, the airbox, disconnected the brakes, the cooling system, removed the radiators, basically went to town on removing bits and pieces of the car and putting them in cardboard boxes. He did however manage to fit the new starter motor. After his (pot induced
) dissasembling spree, he rang my buddy and told him that he took the engine apart coz after he fired it up with the new starter, it made a loud "clanking" noise and would'nt start, his verdict was that the car needed a new motor and that in any case, he "didn't know" how to put back together everything he took off.
I bought the car as is for a mdest price, being a long time alfa fan, and proceeded to put it all back together with the help of a workshop manual. Last week i received a sheet of gasket material and cut out the camcover gasket and closed it all up yesterday.
She runs, but just, very choppy, its odd given that the car ran fine before it was butchered. i cleaned out the MAF, and it runs more or less ok, apart from the loud clacking noise from the camshaft which i will have to change before i take her out on the road. the problem or problems i have are as follows:
1. The engine revs up and down by itself, seems like a MAF fault but if i stick my foot under the accelerator and pull it up the revs go down again, but holding it at 1000 revs, its kinda choppy.
2. The engine heats up to over 90º and the fans dont kick in, they are, to the best of my knowledge connected properly.
3. The lights wont work, completely dead, nothing nada...........
4. The blower/fan/air conditiner wont work, no air blows at all.
5. The passenger window wont roll up while the engine is running, as soon as i shut the engine off it goes up and down fine.
I cant help but think that all of these "electrical" problems stem from one source, any pointers anyone??
The choppy engine might be an electrical issue?
All fuses are present and correct, and as far as i know, everything electrical inside an outside are hooked up to their respective looms and connectors.
Its baffling, and i hope that one or more of you guys could point me to the magical connector or wire or cause of this problem. If needs be ill record a video of the engine running or whatever is needed to diagnose the problem. Im sooooo close to getting this car running!!
