Alfa dealer. I despair.

Windows regulator gone passenger side due to faulty relay switch in the door. Warranty only covers the switch (100) and I've had to pay for the regulator (220 all in) I get in my car and close the driver door and instantly I know something isn't right (you just know don't you) I get home and open the door to get out and there's no glass dropping to clear the hood overhang. I check, twice, and confirm that the glass isn't dropping at all on either side. Arses! I phone the dealer up and explain and am very clam and nice about it and he tells me to bring it back the following morning and they'll sort it. So I trudge over (going well out of my way and having to rely on trains to get me the last 10 miles to work - urrghhhh) They phone me at 5pm saying "we've checked the windows and they both open fine!" I explain that yes the windows open fine but they don't drop when the door catch is released. "Ahh right, we'll have another look and we've checked the squeak out from the rear wheels and found it's your brakes" ???????

It was squeaking but I hadn't asked them to look at that. Nevermind, I get the train back and wait patiently for them to serve me (cracking looking girls so I'm not too fussed about the 15 minute wait) "Yeah, the doors are done we'll just get the technician to come and explain what was wrong."

"Right mate, the brakes were sticking and we've adjusted them and cleaned up the mess."

"What about the windows?" I ask.

"Hang on, I'll check."

I'm then handed the courtesy car keys and told that they'll ring me tomorrow and I can come and fetch it when it's done.

Not once did I moan or gripe and only god knows how I kept my composure. Two trips into the middle of a very busy city at rush hour to drop it off. Four journeys on scummy trains and an hour lost at work.

It just gets worse.

Re: Alfa dealer. I despair.

Having just come past the 3 year warranty period we`ve deserted the main dealer network, found a good local specialist who charges half the labour rate, provides twice the service and not looked back since.

Re: Alfa dealer. I despair.

I agree. Once the warranty is up in august those suckers can kiss my ass. They took all day to ring me back only to say "sorry, we still haven't fixed it. we don't know what it is."

So a whole weekend in a courtesy car (156 1.9 JTD)

I feel like such a sales rep!

Urgghhh I need a bath

Madness Re: Alfa dealer. I despair.

I fully sympathise,

I have owned my Spider for one year now and the dealership has proved itself inept at best! The list of hassels and moans are too long to list, but the most recent is the subject of my cooling fan not operating unless the air con is on. I tested the relays and got a friend to plug in a diagnostics tester to see what was going on. We could not find a fault so (seeing as the car was due in for its 36,000 service and have a replacement seat cover fitted) I asked the dealer to investigate and report back and gave a list of the tests I had done. I expected the car back the following day, but when I called at lunch time I was informed that no technicians had come in and the car would not be done till the following day. I asked about the seat cover (the first replacement cover fitted was the wrong colour) and was told it was not in (having waited 4 months already).
The following day the car was still not finished, and no seat cover (though it was due in for the service).
Finally, on day three I picked the car up. Seat cover not done, and no fix for the fan. They tried to charge me for the test I had carried out and told me they really were not sure but it could be the ECU and I should replace it!!!
Two weeks on, and I am still trying to get the car sorted!

Re: Alfa dealer. I despair.

This could unfortunately be any car dealer representing any car maker as far as my experience goes. There are bad and worse dealers. And then some independant ones that are ok. But its independant of car maker.
I always give the service guys a written notice in large font size when leaving the car for service. It doesnt help them doing whats on the list, but keeps me from paying for all the creative things they claim to have been told to do.

Zender 156 V6

Re: Alfa dealer. I despair.

The fan wiring is pretty complex - at least on my 2.0 156.

It has 2 speeds - normal speed for A/C and fast for engine cooling.

If you've checked the relays have you checked the thing thats mounted into the radiator housing.

It sounds like the fast speed is not coming on - you would have thought an Alfa dealership should be able to track it down.

The dealer here is pretty useless - they had a really good set of mechanics but they seem to have gone and now I have to speak to the manager to get any sense.
