GTV sunroof problem (solved)
I recently bought a GTV TS ('96) and one of the problems i found was the sunroof wasn't working.
The dealer's mechanic did a quick check and said power was getting through to the switch in the centre console but they didn't want the hassle of trying to sort it so I used it as a bargaining chip and bought the car.
Anyway, I can crank it open and shut using the manual key in the roof and everything moves smoothly so it seems likely the problem is with the motor.
I read that the mk1 Punto motor will fit so have got hold of a second hand one and was about to fit it when i ran into 2 issues:
Only 2 of the bolts are accessible so I guess it means if I do need to replace it I will have to take the headliner out. How hard is this and where do I start? I cant find any tutorials on it so any advice would be really welcome.
The second thing is perhaps more interesting. I noticed while teasing the wires out of the roof cavity that there is no relay attached. The block it would plugin in to is there and wired in but no actual relay. The replacement part has one so my question is should there be one there in the roof? And if so why would someone remove it? (could it have been blowing other things in the car perhaps? if so i guess that would still imply a duff motor) - if i can potentially get it going by plugging the relay in without risk to the rest of the car it would save so much grief! (btw should i disconnect the battery before changing a relay in the roof?)
