You are right, if you can get hold of a good example and then maintain it correctly they are just as good as any other car.
Unfortunatly it's all about the cars history. Any car, no matter how good will suffer from neglect and abuse, especially early in it's life.
These cars are now up to fourteen years old and for the above reasons some will be far better than others. So for the buyer it's a bit of a lottery. As time goes on and the cars become cherished classics the bad cars will die out. For example you don't see many dodgy Triumph Stags about these days, twenty years ago it was a very different story.
So there are good 'uns and bad 'uns. Trouble is on forums such as this you only get to hear about problems and defects.
Maybe someone should start a thread about all the things that HAVE NOT gone wrong with their car.
My MAF has been on the car since I bought it, It's still there MAFing away happily, no problem with my MAF.
I think it's safe to say that in the MAF department mines a good un. Until tomorrow
Gettin' to old for this sh*t
