Speedo drive in 6-speed box

A question regarding the early 6-speed gearboxes in 3,0L GTV's; I have seen a differential cover for a AR156 6-speed box, where the die-cast was prepared for a nylon gear drive for the speedometer, allthoug there was not drilled a hole for that. New type speedometers are driven by impulses from the ABS system.
The GTV was introduced before the 156 I believe, and I wonder if the early 6-speed models had the old type nylon drive for the speedometer.
