thanks for reply's
simon any advice appreciated, i've looked at the buyers guide am i right in thinking hose of death is the same as the coupe
I don't think the GTV has the hose of death.
Things that go wrong with the GTV that don't on the coupe are as follows.
The GTV has a dual mass flywheel, which can play up, a popular swap is a sold flywheel from a 156 2.5 along with a 2.5 clutch. This also allows the engine to spin up faster.
The rear suspension is more complex, the rear spring pans can rust plus there are several joints and bushes which can wear and mess up the handling.
The GTV's standard diff is quite fragile and can break, often damaging the gearbox. A Q2 diff will improve handling and prevent this.
The oil cooler and pipework is pretty much the same as on the 20VT, so just as on the Coupe the pipes can rust, and are virtually impossible to remove from the cooler itself.
The front suspension is pretty similar on the GTV and 20VT so the same issues with bushes and ball joints can happen after the car has done a few miles.
