There's a pictorial thread about replacing the boot badge here :-
** BUT **
... after removing the carpet lining, you can avoid a huge amount of neck strain if you rotate the black plastic lock-nut half a turn and then withdraw the whole badge assembly. This will make it far
easier to swap the badge !
To remove the plastic carpet clips I used a medium sized flat bladed screw driver.
Total time to do this should be about 20-30 minutes.

Yep, removing the Lock completely is the method I've settled on.
Talking about being locked out of Boots....... I put a new Tailgate Hatch Seal on my Alfetta GTV6 last week and as the new Seal was a bit smaller than the old one I adjusted the Lock position, a few times in fact, to get a nice tight fit.
At one point I was left imagining Angle Grinders attacking the newly refurbed '6 to get the Hatch opened again as I couldn't open it !
Ten minutes of panic later I did manage to get in and readjusted the Lock - with a bit of slack in the system this time !
