another coolant temp/thermostat post
Ok, so I've searched the many threads on this subject, but mine seems to be a bit of an odd ball.
The engine should warm up reasonably quick, and the gauge supposedly should hit about 90 and then (as thermostat opens) sit there pretty much all the time. Many seem to say that theirs doesn't hit the magic figure except in traffic etc.
mine is a bit like that. for the past couple of months the temp gauge gets to about 75-80 and has pretty much sat there (I'm guessing typical Italian 'near enough' type electrics)
recently, especially during the hotter weather, and yes in traffic, the gauge has hit 90 and then returned on a run back to it's usual 75ish, however it's now constantly fluctuating between 70 and 100, very much dependant on road speed and outside temp.
not gone above this mark (yet) but not sure if I should be worried or investigate further.
My main concern is that before I bought the car, it had an engine rebuild and new radiator/thermostat etc after the previous owner decided that water and oil were not really that important.
Car has now done about 7k since the rebuild (by a trusted garage) and has been running fine, just a bit of a concern really due to the history.
Thermostat? water pump? radiator? fans?
any thoughts appreciated
