Hmmm Cam belt due for a change but oil consumption!

Hi, my GTV 2.0 TS is on 70,000 miles and due a cam belt change. I've read threads about getting the variator and water pump done too.

But the engine uses 1 litre of oil every 500 to 700 miles (not a leak - must burn somewhere).
Should that be sorted at the same time as the belt change?

And the water temp gauge seems low - should I change the thermostat too?

So, Guys, with this oil consumption should I be looking at something radical - like a recon engine rather than a virtual rebuild or just a belt change?

Really value your advice,

My GTV TS used to use quite a lot of oil, but yours does seem a little high. But also, if the thermostat is always cooling i.e stuck open, that will increase oil consumption so worth doing the thermostat before forking out for belts on a possibly worn engine
