Having taken the plunge and bought an Alfa, I thought Iíd post my first impressions of ownership now Iíve had it a few months.
Where to start? I suppose the beginning is as good a place as any.
If Iím honest, we didnít get off on the best of terms. Iíve gone from a 45 to a 70 litre fuel tank, and done nothing to the distance I can travel between fill ups. I knew it was coming, but 27mpg is still a bitter pill to swallow. And then it started wetting itself 3 weeks into our relationship.
I thought I bought a car, a not a car with a portable coolant filled swimming pool in the passenger foot well. But anyway, these things happen I told myself. I'd just got that diagnosed (valve by heater matrix), when on the way back from the garage the clutch goes (slave cylinder). Fantastic.
What else? Itís thirsty, expensive, isnít particularly comfortable, I donít fit in it properly with the roof up, the steering wheel wasnít put on straight, the turning circle would make an oil tanker blush, the boot is a masterpiece of Italian comedy, the boot release is almost un-findable, being unable to pop said boot without turning the engine off is frankly absurd, the passenger side hood release is a lesson in patience for the ill informed, trying to see traffic lights change out of the letterbox windscreen impossible to do while still looking dignified, first gear is far too long, the speedo doesnít work properly, only having 1 spare seat is annoying, and Iíve got nowhere to hang a shirt and jacket.
However, despite everything, itís perfect
