Hi to all would like to know of a connection point close to stereo where i could pick up a switched positive point for my car stereo please thought of going of the services fuse but cant get at the back of drop down fuse box in my gtv 2ltr 97 plate.Stereo stays on all the time would like to have it switched.
I just took a multi meter and checked the different connections in the connector under the central consol (the one the cigarette lighter connects to, and yes - on pre -98 models the cigarette lighter has a permanent feed). I can´t remember which wire, but it is easy enough to check with the multi meter. As Nige005 says, search the forum, there are plenty of threads on the subject.
Don't know if this will be of any help, but if you are a lazy bugger like me you could just swap the live feed with the illumination wire and use the side lights to turn the stereo on and off. Saves draining the battery at least, although certainly not as effective as using a proper switched live. If your car is pre 98 (like my recent GTV) then perhaps grabbing it from the ignition barrel area is the best way.
Which Italian menace decided to spec the GTV with an archaic type of stereo...?!!
Thank you to all for the info i have just fitted a Alpine iva d511r into my p1 took some figuring out for the flip screen but its in.Will pop some pics on here if anyone is interested even found a way to remove the rubber feel coating of the console so i could repaint it. Just could not find a switched positive so yet again thanks for your support.
