Chilling TS oil change with PELA oil extractor (with pics)

Hello all,

My twinnie desperately needed its oil changing but I really didnt want the faff of getting under the car so I picked up one of the PELA 6000 vacuum extractors from the internet.

I really cant recommend these enough, they do a great job of getting the oil out.

1. Take the car for a good drive to get the oil temps up and then put the extractor tube down the dipstick.

2. Pump away! No more than 20 pumps per time (according to the instructions) and keep going until your satisfied its all out. My oil was 1/2 way on the dipstick before extraction and I managed to get just more than 4litres out using the extractor and then a bit more from within the filter - so id say it got it all.

3. Change the filter over; its just behind the bumper on the right side on the TS - you dont even need to jack the car (although I did). Be careful to have a container to catch the oil and be aware the oil is boiling hot! The filter cost less than €10 and simply screws off/on. Also dont forget to lubricate the seal with a bit of new oil when re-attaching.

4. Fill with new oil (4.5L for the twinnie). I went for Mobil 1 fully synth 5w-40. Cost me €60 but oil is quite pricey here

5. Let it settle, check the levels and for leaks and then drive away!

No spills, no mess and took less than 30 mins.

Im a happy chappy and so is she!

I also did this recently. I'd also stress the importance of reading the dipstick before starting so you can be satisfied it's all out before putting in the new stuff. A few hundred miles on and the oil is still the same colour as when it went in which is another sign all the old black stuff came out!
