How involved is changing the sump on a 2.0 GTV?
After 2 and a half years of pretty trouble free motoring my car has given me two loads of grief in a week.
Went to change the oil and filter today and on trying to put the sump plug back, as I tightened it by hand it seemed to be resisting so I stopped and undid it again. When I went to put it back a 2nd time it just slotted into the hole with nothing to screw it into. Sticking my small finger into the drain hole I could feel what felt like the thread broken off. It eventually rolled away completely as I tried to coax it out. I would have just bonded the sump plug and worried about sorting it over the next couple of months if there wasn't a stray piece of what I think is probably metal in the sump.
I assume it would almost certainly damage the engine if I replaced the oil and bonded the sump plug?
So it looks like a new 2nd hand sump. I get the impression they are a bit of a pig to take off and put on, is this right?
