...to find out if my twinnie is dead.
As I was heading for work yesterday I got a horrible vibration and banging whenever I accelerated. I stopped and had a look for anything obvious, checked the wheelnuts etc and then set off again. It was still making the noises so I pulled over and rang the AA.
When they arrived the guy took a look and diagnosed a broken engine mount and towed me to my local garage. They've had a look and confirmed the broken mount but it seems like I've had a problem with an engine mount for some time without knowing it - there was a missing bolt on one mount and the extra load on the others has resulted in another mount breaking and has also stripped the thread from the gearbox where it is mounted. All this without warning - it was MOT'd last month and has been running fine. My wife used the car yesterday and said, in hindsight, there was a bit of vibration but nothing that caused her any alarm.
They're going to see what they can do today in terms of repairing it, but if they can't do it then the gearbox would have to come out - and that's probably the point where repairing it would be uneconomical.
I love my twinnie. It's going to be a tense day!
