overhaeating problem

hi there,

My GTV has an overheating problem it is a R reg. I am in process of checking a few things.....the rad looks fine........the fan comes on at just about 90-100 when idiling...........

But having read various treads on the forum I was wondering how to check the fan operation, since they say about being 2 speed ect........... I have just taken the leads of the two sensors around the thermostat area and the fan does not come on? and it the unit attached to the radiator a temperature sensor

Connect to the computer with AlfaDiag, FiatECUScan or UniDiag and read the coolant temperature there and any errors stored in the ECU.

You can check the fan speed resistor installed on the rad in very simple way. Just disconnect two wires from this sensor (installed on the rad, top right corner) and short-circuit them with 2.5mm2 insulated cable (be aware of cross section of used cable). If the fan kick off at temp around 97deg in very fast speed you will know the resistor is faulty.

But there could be a other problem with the temperature sensor or the thermostat.
