I ve got a spider 97 2.0 this week, 95000 km.
The car is ok but in need of some TLC:
A/ I have at all rev the tapping sound of the valve. I ve read a lot about it, flushing, oil change w synthetic, variator change. I ve talk w a mechanic that told me I should change the hydraulic lifter. Should I? And if I do where can I buy then on internet.
For information the idle is smooth and steady (900 rpm), acceleration is consistent, the engine seems to run nice. (cam belt change recently but not the variator).
B/ After my first fuel tank re fill I had for 50 km + a strong petrol smell inside. I ve check if the smell was in the boot too, nope, engine neither. I ve read that it might be the tank gasket connecting to the filler. If it is the case where can I access the tank to check that. Again the same mechanic told it can be the top part of the fuel pump. Your thoughts and experience pls
C/ Stupid me when I was looking around the engine bay I try to reposition what I believe to be a connector for the ABS system which located inside the engine bay next to the shock bolt. The connector literally disintegrated in my hand while trying to put it back in the clip.
Now my ABS warning light is on. Where can I buy a replacement connector. The other side is already duck taped so I guess it is in the same condition.
Other than that I am planning some bushing change, radio change (IPOD).
I have looked for part in all the usual suspect but I don't seems to find the part I need.
The tapping noise if really annoying, sounds so wrong in such a nice car. When I idle the car purr nicely but as soon as I rev up here come the diesel sound
I really look forward reading from you guys...
I have driven about 200 km, I am so enjoying myself, the cornering is stunning, the response smooth, the gear box beautiful, electric top is the cherry on the cake.
