ooo tricky!! ill break it down individually!
So...Smart Roadster Coupe first: Great little car,60mpg, "feels" fast but really really isnt! my brothers 1.1 206 can keep up with it. Very very cheap inside, but has quite a few gadgets to keep you amused, like on board computer, heated seats etc. Mine was the hard top coupe so had no leaks but test drove a few that where drenched in water! if you buy one walk away from any that has leaks as it gets to the Sam (ecu type thing) and will cost around a grand to fix! The engine is quite sweet at at around 3k revs to 5k revs but anywhere else it is very slow as this is when the turbo kicks in. It is walking pace off the line and uses the rev range so quickly you are constantly changing gear. Good fun though but i just always got the feeling i wasnt in a proper car,i dont mean that in a kit car way but in a grown up car way, felt like it was for teenagers & i was tryin to be someone i wasnt! weird feeling as im only 26!!
And to the TVR! well they really are a love and hate car! i loove the engine and the noise, its very fast compared to the 2ltr GTV. driving position is great and the steering very direct. But the build quality is poor and the trim colour was so dreary and dull i couldnt live with it. 30mpg from a 2.9V6 is very good i think. but in the 4weeks iv had her she has used a load of water due to radiator going, drivers side window stopped working & i have had countless headaches due to how loud the engine is! The engine is great for the 1st hour but gets on your nerves after. Defiantly just a weekend car. Clutch is heavy but you get used to it.
But dont get me wrong! i would own another TVR S again if it was a different colour and it was a weekend car. I probably wouldnt own a Smart again just due to its image but i did love the constant looks & admiration. I got constantly asked if it was a "lotus" which makes you feel quite good!
I dont think its fair comparing these two cars to the GTV as they are all in different leagues!! Really depends on what your going to use them for,ie weekend car, commuting etc. In my view, coming back to a GTV, it is a very well built car, nicely styled interior, quiet at all speeds & still attracts looks.
Hope that helps!
