Welcome to AO mate. Unfortunately the TS engine is a bit of pain and well known for breaking belts. Its widely regarded now that 36,000 is the change time for the cambelt. Most alfa indi's follow this rule. Was it an alfa specialist that did the servicing as they should have flagged this fact up. Can't advise you on a number although someone probably can. Good luck mate. Try autolusso for an engine rebuild as its far cheaper than the 2200 you were quoted and they are widely regarded as one of the best.

You might get more replies in the 147/156/GT forum, but I'm not sure you'll have much of a leg to stand on as Alfa did issue a notice to say the schedule was changed. I assume it is the JTS GT you have?

EDIT: ^ beat me to it! T.S and JTS have same cambelt interval

You can buy a whole replacement reconditioned engine at Autolusso for less than that.

They can also repair your existing engine, I am not sure how much the JTS would be but the TS comes in at 850 (Inc VAT) and that includes new belts, which is a bargain IMO.

I presume your car is a JTS and not a Diesel?
