My GTV Twinnie... To sell or not to sell?
Ok, so she's beautiful, I love her very much, but, she's just gone and failed her MOT...
One issue, and possibly the most expensive one, is the tires. 2 Fronts needed. Also, lower suspension arms (nearside front lower and offside rear lower) along with a little welding work on the exhaust amounts to around £680 (according to my garage, anyone else who thinks they know it could be cheaper would be useful!) Anyway, there is also a little bit an oil leak in the engine too apparently. So all in all, although she still drives lovelyfully, she needs some immediate TLC. The paintwork is pretty good although the doors have a couple of chips, the bodywork is perfect and dent free and inside she is pretty good (black leather) although the driver's bolster has (typically) worn away a bit from getting in and out. (I am short which means the seat is far forward causing extra 'rubbage' on the bolster!)
I don't want to lose her, but for similar money I can do the deposit on a lease car and get myself a brand new MiTo Turismo for about £200 a month. I am thinking if I sold, then I could get between £300 and £500? But then if I look after her, pay for her to be fixed up then she'd be worth good money. The main problem is I can't really afford the work, which puts me in a bit of a spot financially, because I need a car for work, and I love the one I have very much.
Firstly, does anyone have any bright ideas? Perhaps people are/have broken cars with parts which can be salvaged on the cheap-de-la-cheap?
Secondly, if I was to sell, anyone got an idea of what I can really expect for a working, but slightly ailing GTV with potentially loads of life left in her for the right person.
