Oh the joys of Alfa ownership.
Thought things were going too well. Took the motor in for MOT yesterday, and to have a few little bits looked at, new aerial, door seal, door check strap, glass adjusted...
Got a call this morning, all sorted, and passed the MOT
Then when I arrived to pick it up, got in, turned on the ignition and...
BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!! blimey, idling at 2500 revs
As if the throttle was stuck down. Just got back from MOT, so would have failed emissions etc with that, so must have been ok then.
Certainly not noticed any issues with it before, and I trust the garage. They haven't touched anything under the bonnet anyway, so know it wasn't anything that they have done.
Embarrased, confused head scratching at garage lead to diagnostics and ECU reset. stopped it, but then the revs picked up again on idle and wouldn't settle down. MAF checked out ok, throttle bottle cleaned etc, no difference. Throttle switch at fault according to the diagnostics, and luckily garage had a spare used one, so changed it. ECU reset and all appeared fine.. for about 5 mins then it started again
Seems like both units failed, so I need a new one, and they're not cheap
Had to leave the car there, new unit being fitted when it arrives tomorrow.
Only car they could let me borrow was the GTA
Typical traffic most of way home, took 45 minutes to go 5 miles.
Then I hit the country lanes
