The canister has an air inlet with one-way valve, when the fuel fumes are led to the engine, air must enter somewhere into the canister. Maybe that one-way valve is not doing it's job and is letting fuel fumes out? Does yout boot smell of petrol?
Second thing might be at the engine, find the blue tubing on the right side of the car (passenger side for RHD car) that enters the inlet manifold -maybe that's leaking?
3rd option, might be your fuel lines going to the injectors that have started to 'sweat' somewhat (just smell around the enigne)
4th option, filler cap of the tank. Also some seals there, also close to the interior?
