I've had people in Spain and the UK offering to stamp the number on for me, but a big PROBLEM.
In my mind its not the right way to do it, so its a big no no anyway.
The guys in Spain would reject it if it were not perfect. They see that many stamps they would know if it were not 100% correct (just as you would with a duff £20 note) and assume the car was stolen and had been restamped by a back street garage, therefore that would not allow me to register the car in Spain.
If a car is restamped the VIN number begins with R and the main dealer gives you a certificate saying the car has been restamped.........according to what two different companies in Spain who specialise in this told me.
Alfa Romeo Spain and Alfa Romeo UK seem unaware of this and unable to help.
My two local Alfa main dealers in the UK have also tod me that they do not restamp cars.
