I have a problem with the roof on my spider - I've used the search function but as my situation is a bit "unusual" I ahve not found a solution.
The roof is down but I have the Alfa Hardtop on the car. It fits using the rear pins and windscreen clamps, has been on since about October and today when I went to remove it I cannot get the rear pins to unwind/release.
- Ignition off, handbrake on
- Press "manual" button behind drivers seat to release rear pins
- NOTHING happens
I have checked the fuses (all OK) and there's no LED indicating any fault situation - in fact the LED on the console is off and the console switch doesn't do anything (which may be normal with the hardtop in situ).
Neither of the "manual" buttons do anything - well, no that's not strictly true, they energise one of the relays in the rear compartment but nothing else happens.
I did read that too much tension on the rear pins causes issues sometimes so I tried pressing down on them whilst my wife operated the switch but that didn't help.
I cannot access the manual release cables as the "flaps" are closed (the car thinks the roof is down - which it is) but obviously what I need to do i to release those pins to remove the hardtop.
Can anyone suggest anything else to try?
I don't want to release the rear cover clamps as I think that'd make my situation worse rather than better - I just need to get the rear pins to release. Is there a motor for them (I assume so) if so where is it?
I'm assuming it's NOT the one in the centre of the cubbyhole (the one with 2 cables on it) as that looks like it'll release the rear cover (which I don't want to do just yet).
Thanks in advance
