after only owning my w reg spider a short time i wonder have i bought a huge money eating machine.after spendeing 400 on all the belts and pulleys.i now have to spend on brakes .they seem to have plenty of meat left on pads. but takes for ever to brake very poor brakes or are they all the same ?tell me are there any other new owners thinking the same
The brakes are notoriously poor on the 2.0L, just press harder, you'll soon get used to them. Belts and pulleys are a good investment and maybe powerflexing the rear for another £400 but other than that, you should be alright for 36k miles.
I thought the same when I bought mine, but I knew it needed new brakes all round. The discs had visible lips and uneven wear, so I replaced the lot. Fortunately a mate of mine works at a distributor so I got standard discs and pads all round for £120 and it made a huge difference. The old pads had plenty of material left on them but were glazed.
If your discs look okay you could start with front pads and see how you get on; that's a cheap and simple DIY job.
ok lads thanks for quick answers ill try front pads first .its my second car so its not a real prob but you know how it is maybe i shouldnt read so many threads on they are starting to scare me lool
Rears are not great but fronts should be good if all is well with the set up, .............the car will however unquestionably be a money pit, as JC said - "ALFA's are designed to be brilliant...briefly!", unfortunately keeping them brilliant tends to cost a bit, sort of worth it though,
sadly it just got worse tonight i hit a deer so will now need new bonnet bumper no plate and thats all i can see so far .tommorow will tell me more .yep a little cheesed off right now lol.oh well what to do fix her or give up now and bye a little fiat barchetta idk luckly its a second car since i have given up the motor bikes .IF ONLY i hadnt turned left
A young deer hit me when I was in my L200 pick-up,o/s/r door & rear tyer knacked. So can see what damage one would do to a spider.Hope you can fix it because they are a lovely car to drive. I sat with injured deer untill RSPCA arrived, they put it down, said it would not cope with shock. (Sad outcome).
