I had a 2 year old GT 1.9 JTD a few years ago, and that left me stranded with a broken clutch cable.
I've got a 52 plate 2.0 GTV now, which I bought in February, and that has left me stranded twice, key code error and crank sensor (both fixed with advice from here). It has numerous other faults, it reminds me so much of my GT, in that you fix one thing and then something else goes wrong, so there's always something to do.
But, and it's a big but, I love it. I've had no other car(s) that would have been forgiven for this kind of behaviour.
I was driving into work this morning, thinking to myself that even though currently I can't use the drivers door due to a problem with the window, 4th gear isn't really working properly, and my heated rear screen isn't working at all (frustrating, as due to the problem with the window the car got soaked inside yesterday and is all misted up in there) that for the same money I could have bought a nice mk3/4 Golf GTi and it probably would have done everything perfectly, that I'm still glad I went for my GTV, even with all of its faults.
Character is what you have left when you've lost everything you can lose.
