I'm thinking of taking my phase 1 Spider TS to the Nurburgring next month... it'll be my first time there so I'm feeling a bit apprehensive, but I'm promised it's a lot of fun and not as scary as some of the accidents give off!
Breakdown, maintenance or leakage will be very expensive, so I'm giving her a going-over before I set off to try and avoid trouble. In addition to general tightening and checking of my 15 years/111,000 miles old girl (!), it brings to mind a couple of minor long-term fixes I was thinking about
1). I seem to have the alloys fitted from a 147 - as far as I can tell, these have a 10mm smaller offset than the GTV Teledials, and the looks and tyre wear (always inside-first, front and rear, despite re-tracking) seem to confirm this.
I'd like to get some 10mm spacers all round to restore the looks and maybe slightly reduce the wear, but it seems from the thread below that I'll need to find some with an extra hole (or holes) for the mounting stud:
Any recent recommendations/advice? I'd prefer hub-centric to avoid future hassle.
2). My air-con has never worked, I think it needs a new radiator. I have no interest in repairing it - I'd rather save a small amount of front-end weight by removing the radiator and pump.
However, it looks like I'll need a shorter belt to continue to drive whatever else is hiding on that side of the engine - I'm also not sure if I'll need any blanking plates to cover up any disconnections (pipes to a heat exchanger? hopefully nothing interacting with the engine, other than the belt) after I remove it. Does anyone have any experience removing the air-con? Or want any of the parts?
These probably sound like simple questions but I know the simple can sometimes turn into the protracted with these cars, so appreciate any experience offered
