airbag light on, diagnosed as pass/side pre-tensioner

my airbag light has come on on my 2002 GTV 3.0 v6 24v, I had it plugged in at a local garage & they diagnosed it as passenger side seatbelt pre-tensioner.

Now i've seen on here that you can cut out the yellow connector & solder the connections together. Does the seat have to be removed & if so how easy is it to remove it?

Hi mate, This problem caused me hassle for the first year of GTV ownership. It could be as simple as the connectors causing the problem so the solder would fix it.
Im my case the diag said the same as yours. Upon lots of investigation it turned out to be my drivers side pre tensioner needed replacing. The diag machine thought the car was left hand drive so it came up as passenger side. The replacement pretensioners are Alfa only and cost around 170ish Ouch

Hope my experience of this problem helps

Best way to test if it's diagnosing the correct side is to disconnect one of the underseat connections and run the diagnostics again that way it will flag the open circuit error you've created and tell you what side it thinks is open circuit.

With regard to soldering the connection it is definately a seat out job as there is very little slack in the wiring and access is a nightmare. Seats are held in with 4 allen bolts, not hard just a bit fiddly.

Good luck mate

Oliver K is right it will probaly be the drivers side pre tensioner, had same thing the pre tensioner turned out to be a bit loose, bit of pressing fixed it, will need diag to turn the light off.
