Your META alarm fob should unlock the doors as well as set and reset the alarm. This is providing its connected correctly into the wiring loom through a standard connector at the back of the alarm unit. If the fob is working but the doors are not unlocking then you may need to check the central locking is operating correctly with the car key first. Sometimes if my door locks have frozen and I try to open the car with the fob it may manage to get one door open only, or I may open only one door with a bit of force. This results in the system set incorrectly and the doors wont operate when I try to lock or unlock with the fob. Locking each door with the key individually so they are both open or closed until the central locking works ok and then trying the fob again seems to rectify it. It could also be that a door lock sensor has failed or the mechanism is sticking in some way (therefore the fob wont operate doors)
All UK cars were fitted with aftermarket META systems by Alfa UK dealers and they did not come with the alarm system as featured in the Car manual. Why i'm not so sure it could be to do with insurance.
To err is human, but you need an Alfa to really screw things up!
The road to heaven is paved with old Alfa's.
