When I get the car to Spain I will have it registered onto Spanish plates.
Part of the process is obtaining an ITV for the car (equivalent to an MOT), I know from taking a car down previously it will not pass with RHD lamps, or with RHD lamps that have the "flap" to cut off part of the beam to stop you dazzeling oncoming trafic.
Second hand cars are very very expensive in Spain, see Angebote zu: Alfa Romeo, Spider, Endpreis von ? 6.000,-, Endpreis bis ? 20.000,-, Cabrio, bis 200.000 km, Erstzulassung von 1995 - AutoScout24
and you will know what I mean!!
Service records are often very patchy and in a lot of cases appear very fraudulent!!
The cars tend not to be looked after as well.
I took a used car from Germany down to Spain three and a half years ago (bought from a main dealer with only a very small discount), I obviously had to pay all the import duties in Spain, I have just sold it for E1200 (about £1100) less than the car + import duties cost me.
£1100 for three and a half years depreciation makes a big difference to your motoring costs.
I am picking this up tommorow Left Hand Drive Place
I need to have the alloys refurbed, spend c.£200 on the bodywork, £800 on headlights and then hopefully I will have another few years of low depreciation motoring!!
