Been around for a while and most of the time found the answers without having to ask.
This weekend I bought K&N replacement filter (E-9228) but stumbled on a fitting problem.
There is a plastic trumpet shaped part that goes inside the OEM airfilter top ( see attachement nr 1 ).
When I try to fit that part inside the K&N filter my airbox is not closing anymore (2 mm gap) ... On my previous GTV the BMC filter was a straight swap, including that trumpet. Tried to call K&N but they are not very helpfull since I bought it from private owner. Seems strange that I have to throw away an OEM part. Any experiences with K&N filters ?
My car is 2.0TS, 2002, CF3 engine (EURO 3).
Partnumber on the box seems to be correct according K&N website ( E-9228).
Any help greatly appreciated, do not want to blow my MAF because of incorrect fitting.
Thanks for your reply, bottom is in the right place. On the original A/C that top part fits nicely inside the filter, leaving the outside rubber lid free to make the seal. When I do the same with K&N, the plastic trumpet sits on top of the A/C, not inside. Strange ... should have sticked with BMC
K&N asked me to measure the element and give the OE partnumber. Yesterday I re-checked everything and it fits nicely with a good seal against the A/C lid but without that top trumpet .... drove-it and for sure the placebo effect took place (defo not worse without the trumpet ). Thanks for all the help I'll see what K&N comes back to me. The private owner bought it from Alfisti.net.
