I'd avoid a Cat C car, in fact I'd probably avoid a Cat D, even if it was very cheap. You'd have a nightmare selling this on. I'm also under the impression that quite a few insurance companies don't like insuring Cat cars?
I've had quite a few cat C & D cars in over the years!! I really don't have a problem with them!! A lot of the time they shouldn't even by written off imho!! I've seen £4k cars written off cos of a cracked bumper/headlight & dented wing!!
As for being a nightmare to sell on, that's only if everybody is narrow minded!! Every cat C/D i've had has sold really easily. I always have given a full description & have always sold them through Ebay.
As an example, I bought a cat C w reg fiesta to use as a runabout in Nov. I paid £475 for it. It was stollen recovered with minor panel damage in 2006. I put it thgough MOT about 3 weeks ago, all it needed was exhaust centre section which cost me £35 fitted.
I put in on Ebay at about 4pm sunday as i've just bought a GTV. Within a couple of hrs i'd had about 8 calls & countless texts & emails!! New owner drove the car off at about 9pm sunday. Took 5hrs to sell!!
I also made £250 profit!!
Cat C & D cars aren't something to be scared of!! Not for me anyways, my GTV was a Cat C in 2007 due to water damage to the engine!! It's been fully rebuilt etc so i'm not worried!!
Oh & insurance has never been a problem neither!!
