Idle control valve

I keep seeing references to the cleaning the idle control valve as a possibility for sorting out an erratic idle. Am I right in thinking that applies to CF1 engines only? I have a CF2 engine with fly-by-wire - could someone clarify how idle is controlled with this type of engine and whether there is a component that I should be cleaning/replacing? (I keep seeing references to the Idle Stepper Motor?)

correct, cf1 engines have a idle control valve wich you can clean.
cf2 engines have a idle control actuator, but maybe someone with a cf2 can help you further.
