What are the specs on the Punto? like engine size and 0-100k etc ?
The Punto was powered by a 1750 engine and produced "only" 130bhp (96kW) but it was lightning quick. Not fast, just very quick and in short rapid bursts of acceleration it was really impressive. It handled like a kart, especially after I fitted 17" wheels to it and I maxed it into the rev limiter in 5th, with the speedometer reading 230km/h and the geared top speed in 5th being 227.5km/h.
This car was the most fun I've ever had, being a kind of "boy racer" with mod cons like dual zone climate control, cruise control, esp, asr, hill-holder, etc. Even more kitted out that my 2006 156- but allowed you a lot more fun. You could hang the tail out slightly before the stability control kicked in (at very, very dangerous speeds I must add!).
It was quicker than Fiesta ST's, Polo GTi's, in fact I think it was the fastest little hatch sold in SA at the time, but most impressive were the brakes. It did 100km/h to 0 in 2.67 seconds, which is better than an M3 CSL or most supercars for that matter.
That picture was taken at an altitude of approximately 1000m and it was still on it's way pulling into the rev limiter in top gear
Unfortunately I had to sell it because it became a little bit impractical, you know, too small with only 2 doors, no real boot, poor fuel economy and the speed scared my wife and the handling could not be exploited on public roads... So I bought a GTV 3.0!...
It was a very nice car and I liked it a lot
