OK So I just got my car back from Alfanet and here is the report:
First off the cambelt tensioner was white....not the original but Duncan thought it has maybe seen 30k miles.
But get this....the cambelt was pretty much brand new so the dealer had changed it but it was put on BACKWARDS!!
Anyway he replaced the cambelt, tensioners and variator (all parts supplied by myself).
He also did a thorough check of the car and advised me on the following:
Front pads 50% worn
Slight movement in n/s/f/ suspension arm
Slight gearbox oil leak end casing
Play in n/s/r shocker arm
Fan belt tensioner noisy
Air intake pipe split (temporarily repaired)
Inner wheel spat
All this was done for the grand total of £105.75
Compare that to Automeo who charged me £270 to change my oil and oil filter and check my emissions (plus a little investigative work).
Only disappointments were that my Air filter is completely seized on and both Alfanet and Automeo couldn't get it off so I need to buy a whole new clamp/bracket for the air filter.
Also Duncan did not pick up the grating/scraping sound I hear from behind me when I am accelerating...and I still hear it (any ideas anyone??).
Fixes on the horizon: new n/s/f suspension arm and n/s/r shocker arm
Cheap/quick fixes I should do soonish: new/used replacement air intake pipe and inner wheel spat
All in all Duncan is the best guy to go to for Alfa's in Bristol.
