Are you all not thinking straight?
For a start, the car doesn't need a full respray, a visit from Mr ChipsAway or ScratchRepair will sort out the scratchs and scuffing, for less than 300 Quid (and yes they can match this paint even if faded, I asked them already). The front splitter can be repaired (if you know how to) prior to his visit. Door card? The scrapyard can supply one in mint condition for a tenner (I even have one available out here in CZ for that price). Mats? Ebay can supply near-OEM Quality for 30 Quid, or again, 2nd-hand OEM mats in near new condition are always available either on this site or eBay. Seat Belt sensor? Cheap fix, just do a search on this site. Door cracking/creaking noise? Again, almost a no-cost fix, it has been explained on this site in detail. Window adjustment? Again, almost a no-cost fix, and again 'how to' described on this site.....
250 for 2 new tyres??
100 for the alarm fix??
Are you talking pounds, or Czech Koruna here??
Seriously, with a bit of research, much cheaper prices can be found, without losing out on quality.
Given that it has had some loving attention from Autolusso, I think that mechanically, there is a very good chance of this car being in similar condition to a car half its age.
Why do some people automatically assume that the car was neglected, because of a bit of cosmetic damage? Clearly in this case, a considerable amount of money has been spent on this car, and he has had it serviced by Independents such as Autolusso, who I believe have a much higher rep than the Main Dealerships. Plus, did you ever stop to consider that, in these times of economic hardship, that the owner may not have a grand spare?
Anyway, rant over, I think Delboy is secretly trying to put people off bidding, so that he can gazump you all...
I think for that sort of money you probably have to be realistic about what you're going to get. If you don't really mind the odd bit of 'character' knocked in to your car then this could be a perfect long term project. But, and this is only because I'm super fussy, I'd shell out money on the cosmetics. I know from first hand experience you can't part match Alfa red, the whole car would have to be sprayed and for a good job you have to be looking at £2k. Add in mechanicals and then there's the interior trim/seats and headlining etc (if you can find it!) I don't think it is worth £2.5k as they've been coming up on Pistonheads over the last few months with less miles, better condition at around £5k +. Don't get auction fever........
