thanks in advance guys
The Water Pump itself costs about £50, a full Cambelt kit, everything you need, is about £250 and a Variator about £100.
Obviously the garage you bought from is not an Alfa Specialist so I would be very loath to let him loose on it. The whole job is not that difficult but you do need some things he is unlikely to have, Cam Locks for instance. The old trick of using Tippex to mark things up to reset will just not do.
I would be inclined to get him to cough up the cash so you can take the car to a good Indy. It also seems to me that you have an absolute right for a full refund, seems, as the saying goes, that he sold you something " Not Fit For Purpose. "
If you go ahead and want to buy the bits to do the job do a Search on here, there is a fair bit of info about this.
I suppose you could just change the Water Pump and replace the old bits, I wouldn't recommend this though. Also get a proper diagnosis
first, we are all going on the assumption that it is the Water Pump but this is not at all certain at this point.
