Blown Fan Relays

For the second time in a year the fan relays have blown on my 1998 GTVv6 causing the engine to overheat.

I am beginning to think that the relays might be a symptom and not the disease.

Has anyone had anything similar?

Thanks for any help.

I found that the electrical connections to the fan load resistors was bad causing the cables to burn and melt.
They are located in between the two fans on a twinny, don't know if the v6 is similar but worth a look.
There are two, one at the top and one at the bottom in the middle of the rad.
Just two screws hold each load resistor in.
Worth a look.
