Ever since I had my Alfaholics/Ragazzon sport cat/exhaust fitted I've been spending cash!
Directly after fitting the idle was immediately noticeable as hunting, very slightly mind. And the fuel economy had fallen. So I had the exhaust checked for tightness, all fine. Then I replaced the front Lambda, which was giving a wide, incorrect reading and finally I had the throttle body cleaned and the ECU reset.
All improving the performance and fuel economy, so money worth spending, but not curing the slight hunting. What was irritating was the slight noise from, what I initially thought was, the belt side of the engine. Ever since the fitting I could hear a tappy/clicky noise, especially when parked near a wall or high curb. It got worse over the few month since the fitting and I started to think the idler/tensioner was failing.
Today I was informed that the flexi-pipe on the front pipes was knackered, both flexis were blowing - probably partly due to the fitting but they looked bad beforehand. The noise they give off is what I explained, a tappy/clicky noise on idle. So new front pipes next year then. Alfa want - wait for it - £781.56!
I had to laugh on the phone, and when I said to the parts guys, "what's the life span on those pipes then", he said "oh well, they are guaranteed for a year". Really? The price is very reasonable then!
Alfaholics do a beautiful set of SS front pipes for about £325 inc VAT. And they are performance pipes.
So, after all my waffling: would the small leak in the flexis cause a slight uneven idle and would it have had a detrimenntal effect on my new (2000 mile old) SS sport cat? I bloody hope not.
Merry Christmas and sorry for the rambling.
