My alloys are turning to dust!

Hi all,

Had a lovely mishap a while ago with one of my wheels. After refilling the tyre with air the valve came out of the wheel when I pulled the air nozzle off. Obviously this led to flat tyre in seconds and a trip to Kwik-Fit to get a new valve on the wheel.

Another is now looking like it could do the same to me very soon. There's a white powdery coating on the thread and it really looks like I could flick the whole thing off with my finger. Its a standard set of P1 alloys and they are getting on a bit.

Has anyone experienced this before and found a safe way of protecting it or is this a refurb jobby?
