I went to see a v6 gtv that was advertised on ebay, I won it for £1500 , I asked the guy beforehand if it had been involved in any accidents or had any faults, he said it's mint!
Thats when I started to worry, anyway, I won it, travelled 90 miles , saw it in the garden and he met me as I arrived.
The interior was mint but, the front bumper was hanging off, bonnet was resprayed with a rattle can on steroids , etc etc, he said, the engines good so I lifted the bonnet and asked how did he check his oil with no friggin dipstick, what an idiot.
He said the same, what will you offer so I told him that he should give me money for the hassle, the lying t**t, lol.
I ended up buying my current car, a silver gtv with momo red leather, got it off ebay for £800, he told me it needed a clutch, front brakes and was due a belt change.
It had full service history and only 68000 miles and all mot's.
The guy was honest and I am very happy with it so there are some, I repeat some genuine sales but I would be wary with the cheapies....
Yeah, as you say there are some genuine bargains to be had out there from genuine sellers who genuinely want to sell their car, however alot of the sheds we view tend to be advertised as 'Mint examples with some slight wear'. You get there and the doors are hanging off and the windscreen is missing,
Hehe! We've all done it.......what appears to be a bargain is a complete crock!
I'm not bitter at my journey to Edinburgh, I quite enjoyed it - had some fun on the train with my 5 year old.
As long as you go in to these things with your eyes open, it's easy to spot the lemons.
I'm trying to remember the furthest I've gone for a car that turned out to be a dog, probably only about 30 / 40 mile, once for a Calibra V6 in supposed MINT condition, the other a Honda S2000 in supposed 'Excellent Condition',
Cracked rear bumpers are not what I'd class as excellent,
I once traveled 180 miles to pick up a Jag XJS though, worth every mile, want to get another Jag XJS now, ideally either a 4 Litre Manual or a 5.3 Auto,
Got to be the 1992+ facelift with flat faced rear lights and glass rear window panels.
